Second draft

Duty and Liberty

You might hear about why we have to vote in our society. Also, most people believe that a high voting rate makes the healthy democracy society. For this reason, some countries have the compulsory voting law which electors are obliged to vote in elections. Some countries to have the compulsory voting law usually say that the law helps people. Furthermore, people think more about lots of political issue than other countries people, because of the law. On the other hand, most countries people not to have the compulsory voting law think that voting is not a duty, it is just our right. Since, not to vote is one of the politics actions. In fact, I agree that voting is not a duty.

For me, if the government compelled us to vote, I could not get right result. In voting situation, many people cannot make a decision easily, because of the political apathy. Donkey vote, which vote with political apathy, could drive us to wrong society. As an illustration, in Australia people go to the voting place without any political opinion, because of avoiding the fine. As a result, mandatory voting could make wrong decision.

Furthermore, the compulsory voting law could invade our rights. Civilian can use the legal rights to speak and vote. According to the legal rights, even people do not use their right to vote, nobody can blame them because it is their choice. However, if the government enacted the compulsory voting law, the legal rights cannot stand anymore. For instance, a person who rejected the voting can go to the jail in Australia. In addition, forcing vote is the invasion of freedom of religion to Jehovah’s Witnesses. In conclusion, I think that the compulsory voting law has some problems.

In addition, if vote rates were so high, people could think our society’s health of democracy is good. In fact, we always worry about crisis of democracy, because of our lower voting rate. As you know, vote is one of the democracy’s flowers, and this is the reason why some countries force to vote. However, our freedom not to vote is as important as voting. Even, lower voting rate means the democracy’s crisis, people not to vote shows their political messages. Whereas, some countries oblige their people to vote for the high voting rate, abandoning the vote shows our politics opinion.

As a result, I disagree with voting should be mandatory. Firstly, compelled voting would make wrong decision when we have no idea about the election. Whether to vote or not, we have the right to speak, vote, think and vote. Then, the law that is called as compulsory voting could restrict our legal rights. In addition, abandon to the vote is not so wrong. Since, not to vote is one of our political gestures. To conclude, voting mandatory is not so good idea to our society, whether to vote or not, it just depends on people.
